Observations from a "Naglayas"
I don't wish to critique the people and country I left behind 25 years ago.
When I visited the "Pinas" for the first time 2 years ago, I told myself that
I will not make any comments to my hosts and will only listen to what they
tell me. I honestly believe that Pinoys are one of the most intelligent,
resourceful, hardworking people around and it seems that in the country
where I now live, I can tell of so many Pinoys who have been doing very well
despite of their hardship in the Philippines. I wonder why we can do well
somewhere and not in our own mother country???? I do not wish to be
judgemental and I apologize if it cause some flames.
1. I think there is over population in the Philipppines. Somehow, people
are locked into doctrinal purity, to even attempt to control population
growth.
2. Politics and democracy does not work for the good of the people. Maybe
a benevolent dictator like Singapore may work better.???
3 There is too much regionalism, to the point that we identify ourselves
more to the region and not to our national identity.
4.For some reason, when we are all Pinoys together, we somewhat
screw it up! I can't define why! Is it a lack of discipline, lack of respect,
corruption of thought, I don't know. Palakasan, pakikisama, corruption.
I don't know.
What we need is a control of population growth to a level that the country
can support, a strong proud national identity, a strong form of government
that people will be inclined to follow, -and perhaps a change in attitude.
It may take several generation, I hope it is soon.
Thanks,
Enikkor
